If you delete a file or folder from your computer, and then from the recycle bin most people think it's gone, but they would be wrong.

When Windows stores data on a hard drive it starts from the beginning of the drive (after the Windows installation), but when you delete an item Windows does not go back and fill the gap, it just continues using the hard drive space and just marks the deleted file or folder as unreadable. When you defrag the hard drive it puts most of the data back in the holes left by deleted files and folders organising your hard drive to access data more efficiently
